Maria João is a Portuguese animator and film director of trans experience who explores queer feminist narratives through different mediums of stop-motion and 2D animation. Having previously worked in the fashion industry and in the education sector, her work is a reflection of these polar opposite experiences illustrating a unique perspective of contemporary issues. She obtained her MA Character Animation in 2023 from Central Saint Martins and she currently resides in London, United Kingdom.
